Program Descriptions

Bar Code Pro - SNX

After generating a graphic with user data accurate to one micron from preset templates in Bar Code Pro's symbology and variations drop-in library, it can then be saved for printing. Preset drop-in templates cater for industry standard variations, e.g. coupons, shipping labels, bookland, health care, automotive, customs, laser disc, and more. Any barcode specification can be reproduced by customizing up to 66 barcode symbol attributes, including symbol height, width, color, rotation, bar width, adjustments for print gain, and additional text.

Color checking
Custom colors can be included including Process or Spot colors.
A special color checking feature warns if color combinations would be unreadable.

Dimensional checking - Veribar
The printed dimensional accuracy of the barcode symbol is guaranteed by Veribar. Veribar requires virtually no additional area and can be used when label space is tight. When the Veribar squares are crisp with sharp corners, the barcode graphics are perfect.

When space allows, pre-press Veribar can be used, producing squares with crisp, sharp corners. Veribar Grey Scale has a built-in gray scale. If the gray square matching the checkerboard pattern is between tick marks, the bar code is acceptable. To the left or right indicates too-thin or too-thick. The checkerboard pattern should match a 50% gray sample for optimal results.

Print options
Each symbol is tailored to the resolution of the output printer.
The barcode bar width is adjustable for printer resolution (dpi) or able to be reduced for print gain
Wide/narrow ratios can be set from 2:1 to 4:1.
The barcode height can be set from 0.00 to 12.00 inches.
Cropmarks can be included.

Human-readable features
Human-readable text options include font, style, size, alignment, above or below bars, hidden/visable.
Additional text field is available for titles, pricing, item description, symbology, part number, etc.
Quality control specifications can be added to the barcode.
No fonts are required, OCR-A or OCR-B fonts included.

B-Coder - Fowler

B-Coder is a barcode printing program that creates high quality bar codes on screen, WYSIWYG. Not a font.
Add perfect bar codes to documents created with any other Windows program. Bar codes created with B-Coder print using the highest resolution of any printer.
Extremely easy-to-use menu driven setup. B-Coder automatically calculates and adds check digits for you.
Complete Accuracy. Bar codes created by B-Coder are 100% within spec and hence always readable.
Supports all common bar code symbologies. The Pro version supports over twenty symbologies including the new 2 dimensional symbology PDF417.
B-Coder Pro fully supports auto sequencing of bar codes as well as message input from disk file.
B-Coder Pro also supports a command language that allows other programs to automate bar code production by DDE.

Wbar - Stellar Technologies

Wbar is a program which generates bar codes (ie: 3 of 9, UPC, POSTNET, etc) that can be copied to the Windows Clipboard. Once in the Clipboard, you can then paste the barcode into other programs such as Windows Write, MicroSoft Word for Windows, Paintbrush, as well as other Windows programs that can accept bitmaps or metafiles from the Windows Clipboard.

BARMAN - ByteBack

The BARMAN barcode labeller is a stand-alone program which will encode seven of the most popular barcode formats; Code 39 (with or without check digit), Codabar (Monarch), Interleaved 2 of 5 (numeric), Plessey (standard or MSI), Telepen (numeric or alphanumeric), UPC (A,E, JAN-A, JAN-E), and EAN (8 or 13). Additionally it allows direct control over the size of the barcodes and the number of columns of barcodes printed. The speed of barcode printing depends largely on the type of printer and computer power used.

BARMAN can use most Epson 9 pin and 24 pin printers (FX, LX, LQ etc.) and the Hewlett Packard LaserJet II or higher series of printers (Note not the Deskjet range). Older MX printers from Epson will not work with BARMAN since they do not have the graphics capabilities of all subsequent models of Epson printers.

Supplied with BARMAN are three printer parameter files for 9 pin, 24 pin and LaserJet printers. These can be loaded into BARMAN and can be altered to run your own requirements.

Minimum system requirements:
IBM PC, XT and AT type computers MSDOS 2.00 or higher 128K of memory, mono display card and a single 5.25" floppy disc drive.

Zbar - Borges

Zbar will print the barcode, two comment lines above it and the code in human readable characters below it. Its menu-driven, windowed interface makes it extremely easy to use. It is designed to be uncomplicated, intuitive and robust enough for serious commercial applications (it has been ported to several multi-user platforms with the same interface). Zbar operates both in interactive and command line mode. Command line input mode allows you to create input files from other programs (such as inventory control) and feed them right into Zbar without the need for the tedious and time-consuming task of entering label data. It currently supports the following barcode symbologies: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN/JAN-13, EAN/JAN-8, Code 39, Extended 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 128, CODABAR, Zip+4 POSTNET, MSI Plessey, Code 93, Extended 93 and UCC-128.

Several printers can also be used including emulation for 9- and 24-pin Epson, 9- and 24-pin IBM Proprinter, 24-pin Toshiba, Okidata Microline, HP Laserjet and Deskjet as well as Postscript printers. Zbar also allows you to print several times across a page as would be the case for adhesive labels, price tags and shelf ID's. It is smart enough to optimize label usage irrespective of how many different labels are printed.
